Following the volume published in 2004, Kinderoper. Ästhetische Herausforderung und pädagogische Verpflichtung, this book – produced in cooperation with the Theater an der Wien – once again is dedicated to music theatre for children, bringing together perspectives from scholarship and practice. Children’s and family opera is now examined from a multidisciplinary point of view in a contemporary assessment that questions and opens up discussion of the current situation.
The contributions by international authors testify to the growing significance that the genre of children’s opera has gained over the past two decades. They report on artistic and theatrical-practical challenges and experiences, projects and formats, and, through scholarly reflection, reflect on current developments and trends within the broad spectrum of possibilities for enabling children to participate in and experience music theatre.
