During the Bayreuth Festival’s centennial season the European Academy of Music Theatre (EMA) was invited to present its publication Richard Wagners Der Ring des Nibelungen. Europäische Traditionen und Paradigmen on 30 July, 2011 at the Markgrafen Bookstore in Bayreuth.While Sieghart Döhring gave a concise overview of observable tendencies in the current Wagner reception, Isolde Schmid-Reiter delivered deeper insights into the publication’s topics and questions. Inspired by statements from the audience, Susanne Vill, who contributed an article that negotiates the Ring in post-modern interpretations, commented on the heterogeneous reception of Wagner’s tetralogy during the recent years.

On 7 June, the Academy presented its latest publication Richard Wagners Der Ring des Nibelungen. Europäische Traditionen und Paradigmen to experts and the press. After opening the event in the prestigious Teesalon of the Vienna State Opera, EMA president Dr
. Sieghart Döhring passed over to SG Dr. Isolde Schmid-Reiter who provided a deeper insight into the publication’s wide range of subjects.The highlight certainly was the talk on the question „Does Wagner still matter?“ by renowned Wagner researcher John Deathridge (King’s College London), who travelled to Vienna especially for this EMA event and who also is contributor to this book
. Finally the host, State Opera Director and Member of the Board of the Academy Dominique Meyer, engaged in a fruitful and inspiring discussion about present aesthetics of Ring-productions.
